Have forced air gas furnace. Is there any type of furnace that doesn't blow cold air before hot air comes on?

Natural gas furnace. At the base of the exhaust stack in the wall.?
There is an access hatch. It is full of a granular material. It is very light and mineral like. What is this material? Is it a waste byproduct that needs to be removed? Or is it part of the exhaust process?I started to remove it but thought to ask here before continuing cleaning it out.The material does, to me have an insulation like feeling. But why is it there? It is having the tendency to roll back down the exhaust duct and small particles are jamming the exhaust fan blower. That is a problem. It must be there for a reason.MG

How do I find and "check" my ignitor switch for my trane XR80 gas furnace?
My Trane XR80 Gas Furnace has an issue with the ignitor the flashing light has identified this issue and simply says " check ignitor swith" . Question is this How? where is it and what does it look like? I think I found it, but I'm not sure it is a 2" square white thing with a 3" metal type stem. Is that it?

Are gas logs more efficient than a central gas furnace?
We have had a gas furnace since we've had this house built in 1998 and no matter what it was always chilly in the house and this house is very well insulated and the furnace would always be running to keep us mostly warm which cost a lot of electricity and propane and the furnace is loud. We just got a gas log that is 60,000 BTU, we kick that thing on and the house stays nice and warm pretty much everywhere, the bedrooms get a little chilly but thats nice for sleeping. It just makes me wonder though is the Gas log more efficient than the furnace or are they about the same? Whenever my gas log is on the house stays warm enough the furnace will never kick on. On cold days we use the gas log and on fairly nice days we just stick with the gas furnace and keep it on about 67 now. We just got the gas log beginning of this year so I'm just curious about the efficiency, the heat it puts out is amazing. It does have a vent that goes to the outside which I know takes away some of the efficiency.

Our gas furnace is not heating after a very windy day?
This happened last year and the tech said that there is a safety thing made it shut off and we just had to reset it but I don't know how he did this. We have a Ruud gas furnace but how do reset it?

Do modern forced air gas furnaces require plastic ducts?
My furnace is about 12 years old. It is a single stage furnace.I read that old furnaces sent a lot of hot air up the sheet metal, ductwork flue. New furnaces recycle much of the hot air, meaning that the eventual exhaust is much cooler, which makes it more prone to condense and drip back down the pipes in the form of water. To get around this, high efficiency furnaces require special plastic PVC ductwork venting. And there will also be a need for a drainage or pump system to move the condensate fluids outside and away from your furnace. So my question is, is this true? If I bought a new two stage furnace for example a York TM9M would I have condensation problems with my metal ducts? Would I have to replace them with PVC ducts?I have a 2 bed, 2 bath condo. 13,300 square ft. Ducts come up into the condo from the garage below. Thanks in advance for any useful information.Typo It's 1300 sq ft.Thanks a lot everyone for your answers. You helped a lot.

Gas furnace not working properly?
I have a York electric ignition gas furnace. The problem with it is sometimes it will randomly stop working. I will set the thermostat to a temperature above room temp. Furnace kicks in. Sometimes it will stay on until it hits the thermostat temp and sometimes it will stop before reaching that temp. I notice if I reset the furnace by removing the cover which triggers the safety switch and put the cover back on it will usually start working again. Also another unusual thing I've notice is many time when the furnace turns on it will have to startup twice before continuously running. Any suggestions? Do I have a sensor problem? air filters are clean

Gas furnace is making a weird buzzing vibrating sound when it starts.?
The 9 year old Bryant gas furnace makes a weird vibrating sound when it starts. I can hear it through the vents upstairs.I was told it may be the bearings in the blower but that is on the bottom and the buzzing sounds are at the top. Once the blower starts the vibrating sounds quits.
