Is there a minimum length requirement for combustion air intake on a 95% eff gas furnance?
I am installing a York 95.5 % efficient furnace. Per instructions thevent PVC pipe must be a minimum lenght of 5'. My question is there any reason the combustion air intake PVC pipe would require a minimum lenght. The furnace is located next to an outside wall and I would like to run the combustion air intake pipe straight out the side of the furnace and through the wall about 2' total in lenght. The exhaust pvc pipe would have the5' minimun and would be located on the same outside wall about3.5' to 4' above the intake.

Why would water form under my natural gas furnance?
The furnace sits on a galvanized sheet metal square base and the base is on four bricks that lifts the base off the cement floor a couple of inches. The furnace is in an unfinished basement. The duct is a Fiber type board that comes to the cement floor on one side of the furnace and base. The water seems to come from this fiber type board and puddles under the base. The vent for the furnace is a rather long run from almost on side of the basement to the opposite wall, about 25 feet. Any help on what causes this and how to prevent this would be appreciated.

I have a gas heater and put my breast pump in its case up on the shelf in the laundry room which has the furnace and got it down and it has that ugly gas yellowish look it is'nt that old. Any suggestions?
