My high efficiency furnace intake pipe (2" abs) is clogging with frost. I have disconnected it at the furnace
Is this ok as a temporary measure and how can I stop the frost from forming in the pipe. The exhaust pipe is located between houses as is the intake. Problem is the neighbours exhasu is there as well as his dryer vent and my hot water heater direct vent exhaust. If they are all going at once could be trouble however the neighbors intake does not get clogged...
Is it ok to put less expensive 1" furnace filters in high efficiency furnaces.?
Ideally I would like to change my filter monthly but the thicker filters for the high efficiency furnaces run more than $30.00 each. Will it hurt to use 1" filters or possibly even double them up. Those are about $1.00 I think.
Why does my York high efficiency furnace not always stay lit. I have changed the flame sensor.?
This doesn't always happen but sometimes I'll come home and the house is 5 degree's colder than the thermostat is set for and the blower is running. When I reset everything sometimes it runs through the cycle three times and locks out. Glow plug starts, burners start and then kick off after a few seconds. This is an indication of the flame sensor problem but I have changed it twice????????????????????????????????????????
I recently had a high efficiency furnace installed, what is the reason it needs a fresh air intake?
The furnace sometimes has a problem firing and the installer not hvac thinks it is not getting enough air to fire. It eventually does fire. He removed a plug on the side of furace about the size of a hockey puck to allow more air in. It seems to work better but this is not how it is supposed to work. The intake is 3" pvc, 2 elbows, 18 ft long. He also measured gas pressure at two places. He thought the gas pressure coming in may be too high 12 . he adjusted the internal pressure to specs. The intake pvc is not clogged. But if you remove it at the furnace it seems to fire normally. He seems to think that removing the plug is good enough. I want to make sure this is not bad for furnace and safe to run this way. Would an adjustable gas valve fix it? Also, the gas water heater is still vented into chimney, it is in center of house. I have a slate roof so it is difficult to access chimney. The chimney has an elevated cover. Any suggestions are appreciated.
Is a mid efficiency two stage furnace more efficient than a one stage high efficiency furnace?
I am getting quotes to replace the furnace in my house and 2 of the companies have told me that a mid efficiency 2 stage furnace is better than a high efficiency one stage furnace. Funny no one mentioned a high efficiency 2 stage furnace.
Can you vent a high efficiency furnace out the side of the house?
I just purchased a house and would like to put in a wood furnace. The chimney is already being used to vent a high efficiency propane 135000 btu furnace. I was wondering if its possible to vent the propane furnace out the side of the house, into just some kind of exterior vent.
Why do burners on high efficiency furnace shut off for about thirty second during heating cycle?
I have a high efficiency condensing furnace in my home. It heats really well except on really cold days. While running, the burners will suddenly kick off for about thirty seconds and then kick back on. It usually only does this once during a heating cycle. I installed a new thermostat about six months ago and it seems fine. What other reason would cause burners to shut off for short period. The blower runs good and at end of heating cycle shuts off after two minutes. This is normal.
Any suggestions on getting my used (just installed) high efficiency furnace to fire vent fan won't work?
The main fan works, but it won't fire. It's a Fridgidaire High Efficiency Gas Furnace about 5 years old. The existing thermostat has 2 wires and the furnace 5. Any ideas on connecting.
Is a high efficiency furnace possible in my basement?
Hi allI had the gas company come out for a new furnace and they said I can't put in a high 90 % efficiency furnace because where my furnace is located, it is under ground level. The furnace sits in the middle of my basement not next to a wall with no windows. He said high efficiency furnaces need to be piped directly outdoors so I can only get a 80 % mid efficiency. Is this correct? I have to make a decision soon so please help.
About the noisy high efficiency furnace again?
how much would it cost to reroute the pipes from the wall to the chimney ?

Should we install a used GMC brand high-efficiency furnace?
My parents replaced their 10 year old GMC brand 92 % efficient furnace and we might like to put it in our home to replace the late 60s early 70s one that's here now. But I can't really find a GMC presence on the web nor who might be their manufacturers, and unfortunately my parents can't locate their documentation and probably won't be able to in the future .We've already established that businesses largely will not install a used unit, but have some names of guys who do it on the side. Thoughts?
