Best gas furnace information
I have a gas furnace. When should the air returns be opened?
I have 2 type of air returns in my house. Some are up high which cannot be opened or closed and some are low. the ones that are low, can be opened or closed. which season should they be opened.
Does a high limit switch on a nat gas furnace have a 24v continuous current leading to it?
Currently my Furnace's 4 blinking lights has lead me to test the High limit switch which reads closed 0 ohms . However would I read voltage going to the switch if I tested either lead to ground? If so I think I may have a problem with my control board possibly because I don't show anything going to it. The other jumper switches test good also.Thanks in advance,Steve

Strange smell from gas furnace?
Wondering if the exchanger is going bad? Getting a somewhat of a burnt gas smell from the gas furnace. I can only smell it for a couple seconds when the blower first comes on and then its gone and I cant smell it until the next time the blower starts back up. Its old and probably cost more to repair than to replace. I havent looked at it yet buy thought maybe someone on here would have an idea or knowledge of furnaces. Im thinking the exchanger is going bad or possibly not enough vent. Any info is appreciated.Does it sound like the fumes are kind of pooling in the vents somehow? Its only noticable when the blower first kicks on in its cycle. The more I think about it the easier it is to just admit the old furnace is about to give up the ghost. Thanks for the response guys, I really do appreciate your input and advice.

How do I find out whats wrong with my gas furnace blower motor?
I all ready took out the blower, When I turned it on, the blower would run for a minute or two, but it sounded like it was struggling, then it shuts off. how can I find out what happened to it? I'm all ready guessing that I should replace the blower motor, but I just want to know what happened, and what I can do to find out I have all the tools to do so the furnace is 19 years old if age has anything to do with it. thank you.
How much should I expect to pay for a new gas furnace?
Many thanks to those who responded to an earlier question about how long furnaces last I can see that at 17 years I'm already starting to push my luck. If I have to replace the furnace, I should start saving up. Any guesses how much it will cost to replace a furnace with a good model that will last 20 years or so? How about if I combine that with installation of a whole house humidifying system?
York 80 gas furnace not staying on. Pressure switch error.?
I have a York 80 gas furnace that is 11 years old. Monday morning the furnace would not stay on. The furnace goes through its normal fire up sequence inductor fan on , HSI on, gas on, ignition, blower fan on but the gas only stays on for about 60 seconds, then no gas for about 40 seconds, then repeats for three more times, then I get an error. I am getting the red LED 6 flash error for Lockout caused by pressure switch . I tested the pressure switch this morning and it works resistance goes from infinity to near zero when the inductor fan starts up. I checked for all the usual things suggested on these DIY boards intake filter is clean, exhaust is not clogged, vac hose is clear, checked connections from the switch to the control board.One sort of weird thing is while I was troubleshooting Monday, I turned off the power to the unit to clear the error about 4 times within a couple hours ..and the darn thing started working fine for the rest of the day. However, we woke yesterday to the same cold house. I went up to the attic to find the same error and cleared it a few times and it worked for the rest of the day .and yes the same error this morning, but I was unable to get the unit to work before I had to leave. Obviously something is not right and I can t keep climbing into the attic 4 times every cold morning. any idea s or suggestions on things I need to check? Thanks for any help or advice
Is it normal for a gas furnace to click multiple times before it kicks on?
We just bought a house and had 7 year old furnace cleaned and serviced before we moved. Now that we're in the house, I'm noticing for the first time that our furnace clicks 3 6 times before it starts running. Is this normal? My condo furnace only clicked once before it started. Most information I found online addressed furnaces that clicked without turning on or that turned on only briefly. My furnace is otherwise operating properly.

Voltage regulator (Transformer) Keeps failing on my gas furnace.?
Anyways it's the thing that converts the 120v to 24v. Last weekend I had to get a tech out to fix the heater, and he replaced the little transformer. The only one he had on his truck was one with a small reset switch on it. It worked fine for about a week , and then it started tripping the reset switch on the transformer everyday. Any idea what would cause this to keep tripping and what caused my first one to burn out. What little research i've done..It could be that the thermostat wire is shorting out somewhere. I'll be going back to the location in the morning and I 'm wondering what else I should look for. My gas furnace won't stay lit.....sometimes?
I have a natural gas furnace with electronic ignition. Usually, when it kicks on, everything seems to be fine but it goes out a few seconds later. Sometimes before the blower starts & sometimes after. I would say this happens 9 times out of 10, but every once in a while it will work as expected. Any ideas what is causing this? It's a RHeem CLassic Quiet 80.

Gas furnace intermittent pilot light?
I have a Sears gas furnace with a Honeywell intermittent ignition device. When the thermostat asks for heat, the furnace may or may not fire up. When the furnace doesn't fire up, I can get the pilot to light by playing with a hose on the pressure switch. I would remove a hose on the pressure switch and reconnect it sometimes up to 5 10 times until the pilot lights. Each time I reconnect the hose, I can hear the ignition device kick in and try to light. I thought it was the thermocouple but my system does not have one. What could be the problem and what should I replace to get it working properly?
Gas furnace is making a weird buzzing vibrating sound when it starts.?
The 9 year old Bryant gas furnace makes a weird vibrating sound when it starts. I can hear it through the vents upstairs.I was told it may be the bearings in the blower but that is on the bottom and the buzzing sounds are at the top. Once the blower starts the vibrating sounds quits.
