Which oil boiler is better Weil McLain or Utica?

Where does the expansion tank go on an oil boiler?
I have a Dunkirk II Empire oil boiler that I'm replacing my old boiler with. The plumbing connections aren't made yet. I have a check valve and my water makeup on the supply side, the return side comes straight to the circulating pump. There's a 3 4 plug in the top of the heater. Does the expansion tank need to go into the supply, or can I just take it off of the 3 4 plug?

Does anybody have a plume from a neighbours oil boiler bother them? If so how did you deal with it?

Home heating oil boiler vs space heater?
This old house used 2000 gallons of home heating oil last year in PA . Up until April 2010 we were paying $2.15 gallon, but now the price ie $3.56. By my calculation it costs $3.89 per day to run a 1500 Watt space heater for a full 24 hours without the thermostat kicking on. So for the same price of 2000 gallons of fuel, I can get 1829 days of electric space heater. So if I buy 10 space heaters at $40 apiece, I should be ahead.Has anyone tried this tactic? Do you have problems with freezing pipes or uneven heating? What am I missing here?A gallon of fuel oil is roughly equivalent to 40.6 kWh of electricity. Considering boilers work at 85 % capacity at most, that means the price to compare is 85 % 40.6 34.5 kWh. Currently at 10.813 cents per kWh that is $3.73 per 34.5 kWh. Fuel oil is up to $3.56 per gallon. So the two of them are now within 5 %. As little as two years ago electricity was roughly double the price of fuel oil.

Problems with oil boiler?
I am having renovatons done and have not been living at home so boiler has been turned off. There was an issue with water into house when disconnecting kitchen plumbing so all valves were turned off for a short period of time, including feed to boiler. When I turned it on, full force, water starting coming out through circulator pump. Shut down and let drain out. A week later I turned feed on slightly, and water filled and shut off properly,,weird. Anyway. Boiler fired up but then shut down after 20 seconds, fired up again with a pop and white smoke came out, then ran 20 seconds with a few tiny sparks and did same thing. I shut down completely. I am still not living there but will be back in soon and need hot water.Any ideas if I have ruined the boiler or might it be saved,

Has anyone installed a new oil boiler lately?
Has anyone installed a new oil boiler lately? I have an old one now which needs to be fixed or replaced. The cost of the repair is $500 so I am thinking of upgrading rather than throw good money after bad. Now, the gas company will say they are better, and the oil companies will say they are, so I asked two plumbers who install both types of boilers and they said oil is better. I live on Long Island where the cost for gas and oil may be higher than other parts of the country. What is your opinion? If you installed an oil boiler what was your experience with it. Are you satisfied? What kind of equipment did you install? Thanks in advance.

It sounds like my oil boiler is letting off pressure/dripping water? Almost out of oil?
last night i heard a pop and then a hissing sound coming from my oil boiler, when i went downstairs to see what had happened there was water spraying out from what looks like a pressure release valve on the boiler, right above that valve looking thing was something that looks kind of like a propane tank, but we heat with oil not propane.I have turned off the furnace but the water continued to leak all night so this morning i went and turned off a level that apparently turns off the water flow. Also, my oil is on " E" right now and i don't plan on having it filled back up until next winter because the oil is strictly for heat which we won't be needing too much anymore. Its getting warmer now so I'm not THAT worried about it but i also won't have the money until next month to have someone come out and look at it.any ideas what could have happened? This is my first winter with oil heat so i'm completely clueless about this stuff I've always heated with electric.I did shut it completely off....thank God. And i waited about 10 hours before i cut the water flow off so it was definitely cool by then.

Converting residential oil boiler to electric system?
Can an existing residential oil burning boiler system be converted to an electric heated boiler system by merely replacing the boiler unit and adding a dedicated electrical supply line. The house is nearly 100 years old and the existing system is still functioning properly. Do the new electric systems have internal parts that now exist on the outside of my current boiler that can be eliminated. To save money, I'd like to use all the existing components that I can if this isn't going to create a problem making the conversion successful. All advise and guidance is greatly appreciated. ThanksJosh there is no mention of " extra parts" in my question. There are external parts in my current system that may or may not be required with a new system. If you were qualified to answer this question, you would know that already. But, thanks anyway.

Does oil boilers need a chimney or can i vent it?

Have hot water, but no heat with thankless oil boiler.?
I have a tankless boiler that's used for both heat and hot water. We bought the house in the summer and since the hot water worked, we just assumed the heat would too. We turned on the thermostat for the first time and nothing happened. We still have plenty of hot water and have hear the boiling running to heat the water, but no matter what we do with the thermostat, we get no heat at all. Please help.

Oil boiler problem--air and no oil?
My boiler stopped working. We replaced the underground tank with one that stands overground. I bled the pump several times. But still, only air is coming out an no oil. Is there something I can do myself? Or is calling a mechanic the only thing possible to make it work?

Oil boiler fuel smell?
The boiler was worked on last week to add a control box. Since then there is a smell of fuel. I noticed blowing air coming from the plate that surrounds the flu as it leaves the room. Is this safe ?
