How do i remove stains from the oil furnace on my roof?
Problem with fuel oil furnace?
So last year we bought a house that has a fairly new fuel oil furnace. We kept having problems with the pump getting stuck but I was told by a maintenance man that I could keep using the pump by just opening the transformer and turning the motor to loosen it up again when it would get stuck. We did this for most of the winter last year but ended up replacing it by a different service man since the original one was not very easy to get a hold of when it would no longer get unstuck when I manually turned it. After that it worked great but when we had it serviced this year by the new guy the pump was again getting stuck and was rusted along with the fuel filter after sitting all summer. So, of course the service man said there must be water in the tank since they are both being rusted and the color of the fuel was lighter than it should be. So we replaced the pump again and it worked great for a couple weeks. Then it stopped working again and wouldn't pull any oil which after a couple of tests the service man determined the line must be clogged since everything else seemed to be working fine. We tried to clear the line to no avail and so we decided to get a new AGT and not use our old UGT anymore since it seemed to have water and maybe lots of sediment. We transferred the majority of our oil to the new AGT since we bought a fair amount of oil last year which probably wasn't a smart idea . The guy that did the transfer said that there was very little to almost no water in the tank and he said that he was almost certain that it smelled like there had been biodiesel in it before we put the oil in it or sometime fairly recently we think it might have been the person who had rented the house a couple years before we bought it . He said to add about 5 gallons of Kerosene our AGT is only 160 gal since we also have a heat pump to help with the biodiesel which he said he doesn't recommend for oil furnaces and to add some fuel additive. So I was thinking that the reason the oil looked like it had water in it was that it was biodiesel which is fairly clear. But would this cause any of the pump problems that we've seemed to have had? Is it ok for the furnace if I manually turn it sometimes the motor reset button is triggered and I push it back in before " loosening" the motor and sometimes it isn't triggered but the motor is just kind of tight until I turn it a few times manually ? I've read biodiesel isn't bad for oil furnaces but it doesn't seem to be agreeing with mine. Should I get a different service person to come out again? The original one hasn't helped except with telling me to turn the motor and get a couple extra months out of the motor. He is very reliable and seems to know his stuff and even gave us the pump at cost again and didn't charge to install it. Sorry this is so long but there is a lot to it and I thought all of this would help. Thanks

30 year old oil furnace that heats a 1200 sq.ft. home, by hot water heat. Costs $ approx. 3000 a Mid-Michigan?

Our oil furnace is smoking?
I noticed our furnace was not on no heat, hot water. I pressed the reset button and it worked fine for 10 seconds but then started smoking out through a metal pipe with a valve. The smoke had a chemical smell to it. I immediately hit both emergency burner switches. I am definitely having it repaired. Is it completely off now? Am I completely safe from carbon monoxide and fire? Any ideas what the problem is? The oil place said it could be in danger of cracking and should be replaced soon.
Why does my oil furnace shut down after 30 seconds and then come right back on again?
Why does my oil furnace shut down after about 30 seconds and then come right back on?It is a brand new furnace but this just started about a month ago. Of course, it never happens when a service guy comes The furnace will come on, the fan will come on and run for about 19 30 seconds, shut down and then come right back on again with a bang. It seems to happen mostly when it is very cold out and the heater needs to come on a lot.
I have a 20yr american standard oil furnace I have been noticing on bad windy days it shut off?
On a daily basis it's okay but during winter stormy days or other times where we get windy weather conditions the burner goes off and i need to reset a few times. I do routine maintenance on the system since it's used year run because it supplies us the hot water too. I'm not too familiar with the working of the furnace and was just curious to know if this was a normal reaction or do i need to get a contractor? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
Install hot water heater next to oil furnace, replace hot water tank with it?
Having an electric hot water heater installed for the first time in an old house. house uses oil furnace to heat water and radiators. Do i just put the electric hot water heater in place of the hot water tank connected to the furnace? It is being done professionally but id rather know whats really supposed to happen and to better describe the situation if need be.oil furnace was installed in 1979 and not maintained, currently costing about 600$ a month to keep full.
Oil furnace vs electric furnace?
Pros and cons of each. I am thinking about buying a 2200 sq. ft. 2 story home and the primary source of heat is an oil furnace. With the changing costs of oil these days would it be cheaper in the long run to just convert to an electric furnace?
Oil furnace repair - rip off?
We just got a brand new oil furnace last summer July '10 & it worked okay all winter until the beginning of Jan when it stopped working & we assumed we were too low on fuel, the gauge said 1 4 tank though. So we have it refilled & let it sit for 12hrs before we turned it back on to let the fuel settle. The other day Thur? it was really warm so we shut the thermostat off & when we turned it back on that night it didn't work. Turned it off & tried again a few hours later & it worked.Sat afternoon it stopped working again & wouldn't come back on so I called the 24hr service & he told me to push the restart button on the furnace, didn't work. Since 24hr service isn't covered on our warranty I waited until Mon to call them & got told that if it was the jet or the filter it wasn't covered. So my husband decided to check the jet, he got a flashlight & took the front cover the white cover that goes over the entire heater off & looked at it. The seal where the motor pump goes into the firebox is COVERED in heating oil on the outside. It's like dripping wet. So my husband decides not to touch it at all & I call them back. At first the guy told me that it was for sure a parts problem & was covered, they were supposed to be out this morning. Well, it snowed last night. So I JUST got a call from them 12 30pm saying that noone would be out today & that it sounded like the jet was clogged & running oil out of the seal & that it would cost a min. $130 to fix it. WHAT? They just told me it was covered. And a " seal" shouldn't let oil out because it shouldn't be letting anything in & out namely air.Oh, I forgot to add that even if it IS a jet filter problem, if we fix it ourselves it voids the shitty warranty we do have.So am I wrong to refuse to pay because it IS really a jet problem? Or are they ripping me off because I live 1 1 2hrs away & they don't want to come out & fix it for free even though it's covered? It's $45 for them come out & look at it, before they even know what the problem is. The fact of the matter is that they are trying to tell me to change the jet before we even know that that is the problem & yet at the same time saying that if we do ANY repairs it will void the warranty. And we don't have $130 to throw away on them ripping us off. If it is the jet okay we can fix it for $10 ourselves but what is the sense even having the warranty if it doesn't cover even looking at it?
